My daddy and grandpa built a greenhouse in the backyard using PVC pipes and this white sort of transparent stuff. I think it looks pretty good and it definitely works well. Even when it's cold out, it feels like summer in there.
Maybe a week ago I went back to see any progress that had been made.
I think we are doing well. Our big garden is also producing. We've harvested a lot of Daikon radishes and Kabu radishes. Here's one of our broccoli plants.
We put some fencing around the green onions because the chickens kept getting in there and scratching them up.
The loquat trees are also producing but the animals are getting to them as soon as they're ripe, sometimes not even all the way.
Daddy is drying some of the Daikon because he wants to try to make some takuan pickles. We'll see how that works out.
And that is the Bauder gardening update as of February 22nd.
The other day I decided to take pictures of my grandparents' dogs with my new 35mm lens.
I remember when Susie was a little puppy. Now she's 12 (that's a whopping 84 dog years!). She's getting old, but she's still got some life. :) She likes chasing chickens. Daisy is a newer addition. She's only about 3 years (or 21 dog years) old. She's such a funny dog. By the way, Susie is the Boston terrier and Daisy is a Yorkie / Shih Tsu.
and here is a blooper picture (if there is such a thing) lol
This morning we were discussing what to have for breakfast. "How about waffles?" "Okay."
It ended up that I was going to make waffles. I'd never made waffles before but I'd watched Daddy make them a few days before and it seemed easy. Well, it is, but if you know me, I'm clumsy and do all sorts of funny things. :) So I got out the Aunt Jemima waffle mix (we don't even make our own mix but that's next on my list) and the water and oil. Everything went well until I put the oil back. It has one of those screw on caps that don't get tight. They just click and keep twisting, you know what I mean? I didn't know that so I picked it up by the cap and it fell. It fell and spilled on the floor and the bottom of the cabinet. I guess dogs like olive oil... they licked it all up. I mixed the stuff all up in the bowl and it was a little watery so I added some more mix. I heated up the waffle iron and poured some in then closed the lid. *gasp* I forgot to spray the iron with oil to keep the waffle from sticking! I didn't want my first waffle to be a failure so I prayed. "Lord, please don't let this waffle stick." It didn't. God even answers the stupidest prayers like mine. Isn't He great?
By the time I made the last waffle, I think they got to looking pretty good.
Guess what! Bill Nye the science guy is going to debate Ken Ham, the CEO of Answers in Genesis on Tuesday, Feb. 4th, 2014 at 7pm! (That's tomorrow by the way.)
The topic is: Is creation a viable model of origins in today's modern scientific era?
It sounds really interesting and I'm planning on watching through live streaming at debatelive.org
You know those King's Hawaiian rolls you find in the store. I looove those. Mom's been making a lot of bread lately so I decided to find a recipe for Hawaiian bread to make. I can't find the exact recipe right now but I'll link to it later. Mom thinks it needed some salt or something but I thought it was great!
Mommy said to go get an egg because we had run out. When I got to the nest, there was one hen on the nest. I tried to take her egg but she kept pecking me. I did eventually get the egg (by poking her with a stick until she left) but my hands where all pecked up. Then when mom put the egg over the rolls, she looked at the recipe and there were no instructions about putting egg over the rolls. Oh well. It looked good.
